Spotify 'App Support Unavailable'. Hi - I'm trying to set up Spotify for Alexa for my parents (70 years old) over skype, and having an issue. They have spotify premium on their phones, but when they try to connect to spotify on the Alexa App it says 'App Support Unavailable'. I did it by connecting my echo dot to the Internet through a wifi hotspot created by my laptop. The software I used keeps statistics on total data usage by devices connected to the hotspot, and after a few hours of the echo doing nothing but playing music from Spotify I calculated the rate to be about 310 Kbps if I remember correctly. I have a sonos with alexa voice built into it (Sonos One). I have spotify set up through the sonos app but when going through the amazon alexa app, it gives me app support unavailable. I am a student premium user and would love to figure out how to resolve this issue. Something crazy, though, is that if you have an Echo that does not support video (for example, the Echo Dot), you will not listen to the video ads. There will just be a moment of silence while the video is playing in your phone. Actually, I see this situation kind of like an advantage! Audio Issues, Sometimes. In general, there are no issues.

Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:

  1. Tap the menu in the top-left.
  2. Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
  3. Tap Choose default music services.
Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service.
  4. Select Spotify and tap DONE.

Note: You still need to say “on Spotify” at the end of commands to play podcasts.

Now just ask Alexa to play something! E.g. 'Alexa, play Discover Weekly'. Check out the Amazon help site for supported languages.

Supported devices

Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Echo Spot, Amazon Echo Show, Amazon Tap, Amazon Fire TV Cube, and all Sonos players.

What you’ll need: your new device, the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet, and your Spotify login info. Here’s how to connect Amazon Alexa to Spotify:

  1. First, download the Amazon Alexa app from the Google Play or App store, and follow the prompts to set up your new Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
  2. Once connected, go to “Settings,” select “Music,” click “Link New Service,” and then tap “Spotify” to input your Spotify username and password.
  3. Select “Default Services” to set Spotify as your default music service—et voilà.

Bonus hack: Once Alexa is up and running, you can even listen to another user’s Spotify account. Just ask Alexa to “Spotify Connect,” and the device will search for another one on the same Wi-Fi network. Stealing your holiday houseguests’ excellent playlists is encouraged.
